SPONSOR UPDATE

Dear Sponsors,

The new school year is about to start for our school in Mali. We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for our kids. As we look forward, we first want to take a look back to give you a report on how we finished up last school year.

Love Mali Report Card

Our school in Mali gets good marks this year for the progress it has made both academically and spiritually. Our goal for Love Mali Christian School is to provide an excellent education for the children in a village just outside of Mali’s Capitol, Bamako.  Parents are anxious to place their children in our school because of the excellent education it can offer.

Before we began our child sponsorship program a few years back, the classes were overcrowded with students sitting 3 and 4 to one desk, there were no text books and most of the teachers had no formal education. In Mali the national average of students who are able to pass their grade is only 50%. Although our school was doing better than that, it still only had a 60% pass rate. The kids had a sporadic Bible time taught by the teachers with no curriculum.

This year we are excited to be showing a 76% pass rate! All the children who failed are offered weekly tutoring. Last year 60% of our kids were able to pass their class! Students now sit only 2 to a desk, have text books, uniforms, and educated teachers!! We are feeding them lunch on a daily basis - that’s 690 meals a day!!

The kids have daily prayer, weekly Bible and worship time, Bibles in their classrooms and a Bible memory program with 85% participation. We have a library, a computer lab and are offering weekly PE classes. An Honor roll system was started and 35% of the kids were on the honor roll last year.

Our school has grown from just a few classes to 3 separate schools: Kindergarten, Elementary and Jr. High, with a total of 18 classes and 658 kids! In fact we are just finishing construction on 2 new classrooms to accommodate all of our students.

A God’s Story from the Church

This past year has been FRUITFUL! Some of the teachers and an evangelism team from the church have been going out every Thursday to a local village called Fouleymanbougou, about 15 minutes away from the school. They set up a chalkboard, teach a Bible story and share the gospel. Then they review the Bambara alphabet and work to teach many young women and girls how to read. This team is serving their community and impacting these young people through education but mostly through teaching the treasures found in the Bible. We were able to give the team two solar powered Bambara audio Bibles for the group. After two days the leader, Sarah, told us, “We have already listened to 46 Bible stories. We can’t stop listening to God’s Word!”

Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing,

and hearing by the word of God.”

Thank you for your part in helping to make reaching these kids for Jesus a reality.

We are looking forward to a new school year. We have a new Director and several new teachers; we appreciate your prayers for these teachers as they get to know and interact with the kids.
